Early Friday morning we made our annual trek up to Montreal.

Once again we stayed at the
Hotel Gault, but instead of the street view we got to experience rooftops that reminded us of home.

Curtis and Adrienne came with us this year. After dropping our stuff, freshening up, and meeting together our walk through Old Montreal led us shortly to
Olive + Gourmando which Kurt and I have attempted to try our last two visits but it was too busy. Our late afternoon arrival ensured easy access.

Onion and cheese filling with a homemade "catchup" made with cloves. Delish.

After meandering around the touristy attractions and waterside of Old Montreal we hit up china town and then headed back to the hotel. We spent the rest of the evening lounging in the Gault's beautiful lobby enjoying several adult beverages.

Day two (Saturday) took us to the shopping area around Sherbrook, St. Laurent, St. Denis, and all the side streets. Curtis and Adrienne were eager to try Poutine but being foodies sought out a personal recommendation. The girls at one of the shops sent us to
La Banquise-a 24 hour joint that didn't disappoint. Of course I got the beer with a horse on it!

POUTINE! This one was veggie but here's the wiki description: The French fries are of medium thickness, and fried so that the insides are still soft, with an outer crust. The gravy is a light chicken, veal or turkey gravy, mildly spiced with a hint of pepper. Heavy beef or pork-based brown gravies are typically not used. Fresh cheese curd (not more than a day old) is used. To prepare, first place the hot fries into a bowl or large plate, then spread the cheese curd on top. The cheese curd should be at room temperature. Then pour piping hot gravy over the cheese curds and fries.

We walked all over the place then accompanied the Williams to their hotel for a wardrobe change before heading to dinner at
ChuChai. All veggie and all delicious. Spring roll and crispy noodles with vegetables.

I don't know the name of this place but there are not words for how good this ice cream was. We walked all the way home from the Mont Royal stop and came across a 10 day comedy festival called
Just For Laughs. I was persuaded to investigate and admit it was pretty cool-but I couldn't understand anything anyone was saying. We finally made it back to Old Montreal where we got a street-side table and people watched over drinks until heading to bed.

Sunday our concierge directed us to the best spot to view the city from Mont Royal. We took the car and you only had to walk about 5 minutes from the parking lot to get to this amazing structure which overlooks the entire city.

My camera simply doesn't do justice to how incredible it was.

We took the scenic route back to the car.

Met a large snale.

And a small one.

Found some raspberries and blackberries.

And some of these things.

But where there is life....

There is death..(with no sign of where the rest of him might have gone).

Then we headed over to the Olympic Stadium and very smelly Bio-Dome.

We only did the free stuff-which included the souvenir shop and looking at the pool.

Coming back we happened across the Montreal Impact's new stadium-if only we had known there was a match we would have gotten tickets. We heard later that they lost.

This was suppose to be the night we were going to the vegan restaurant...but we loved it so much last year we headed back to
Piazzetta on Rue St. Denis.

We headed south as directed by some locals to
Cafe Dervish for amazing hand made Chai.

It was too good-neither Adrienne or I could finish it.

The Just for Laughs festival is hard to miss so we took in more of the festivities.

Like this craziness.

As we walked back to the car I decided I needed to eat...again. Everyone waited patiently.

Who doesn't? We all parted ways early and Kurt and I spent the evening lounging in the lobby sad to be leaving the next day. The sushi? Excellent.

Monday we headed back around 11:00 a.m. with a quick stop for some border crossing goodies.

So sad to leave.

No thank you! We love Canada!
