What a lazy day! We didn't get up until 11:00 and had to check out of the Catalonia Port by noon.

Happy Birthday Kurt! I put together this little ensemble before we left. His favorite Banana creme pie from Vselka and presents garnished with Basil from Virgil's fire-escape herb garden. Corrine helped me walk the dogs over there so I could get it all put together before he got home from work.

We could only drop our bags and wait to check in to the Barcelo Raval at 2 p.m. We found this very authentic place-which was not too friendly to the unSpanish speaking types I might add-down the road.

Amazing coffee.

Amazing potato quiche and croissants. Worth the hard stares.

We wandered around the hood and found this Futbol Mania store. The guys working thought Kurt was British because they didn't believe Americans liked "soccer". They were very nice and Kurt picked out an Arsenal zip-up for his Birthday present.

Barcelo Raval.

View from the roof.

Lunch on the median between the streets in front of the hotel. Kurt had bread with tomato and I had "vegetable mass of tempura". It was very good, but after eating it and having a soda I could eat vegan salads for the next month.

We walked all the way past the cruise and cargo ships to the south end of the port.

On the way back I snapped this for Mandy.

We found a scooter rental place whose slogan was, "The cheapest in Barcelona" which scared us a little but figured, "what the heck" and went for it. 35 Euros including insurance for a 24 hour period.

Here Kurt and the Italian are doing the visual inspection.

Half helmets, short sleeves, and sandals....The Mediterranean way!

Big roads...

Little roads...

And the alleys of Las Ramblas and El Raval...

The best way to travel! We parked our scoot on the sidewalk in front of the hotel to go find dinner. Hopefully we can exchange it for one with less "technical difficulties" (it doesn't really accelerate) before we head all over the city tomorrow.

Sandwich rolls for dinner. At this point we've avoiding anything Spanish.

Crepes and Ice cream for dessert.

That's our room with the open curtain-2nd floor. The hotel is very cool but not very practical and the neighborhood is definitely "ethnically diverse".

Why don't I have one of these lights?

And one of these trays for that matter?

The green elevator. They also come in pink and purple. Tomorrow we just plan on jetting around on the scooter (hopefully a better running model). We leave for Begur on Wednesday and Kurt should have a good feeling for the roads by the time we pick the rental car.
