As promised here is the new desk. The shipping weight was 88 lbs, it's a sturdy little beast and probably 5 inches or so thinner than the previous one. Kurt managed to get all the wires out of veiw.
Our next project (which we will try to tackle this weekend) is to rip down the closet to the right, put the desk in closet nook-mounting the monitor on the wall-and putting shelves above it. This is the sort of storage that can't be open like the bookshelves so we are going to Ikea this weekend to see about mounted cabinets. Our biggest struggle has been to upgrade our place without investing in an apartment we do not own. I decided everything we put in we will take out when we leave so it's been a balance of cost, function, but also trying to keep the place from looking cheap (just ignore the "wood" linoleum tiles we have for flooring). We also want to build an "x" style wine cube into the window above where the desk sits currently. If we're really motivated we'll paint-and I'm accepting volunteer applications.

The new desk looks futuristic, but where did the printer/scanner go?
Mandy and I are in the same conundrum, how do you fix up a rental without investing serious time and effort into something you don't own. I wish we could show before and after shots to our landlord, so we could get some rent knocked off. Those improvements should be deductible. ;P
